Horus is the god of the sun and sky. He is usually pictured with the head of a hawk or falcon and body of a man wearing the crown of all Egypt. He was the son of Osiris and Isis. After Osiris was murdered by his brother Seth, Horus fought with Seth for the throne of Egypt.
In this battle that he won, Horus lost one of his eyes. The eye was reassembled and restored back to him and it became a symbol of protection for the ancient Egyptians. After this battle, Horus was chosen to be the ruler of the world of the living.
Horus was well known for being the protector of the ruler of Egypt. Horus's name means 'He Who is Above All' and is probably related to his status as a god of the sky and to the high soaring of the falcon. His godly image is a falcon whose right eye was the sun and left eye the moon. The speckled feathers on his chest were considered to be stars, while his wings were the sky that created the wind. The restored eye of Horus became the symbol for the state of soundness or protection. Horus became the patron of the monarchy in Nekhen and therefore became the first known Egyption god.
He is most associated with the temple at Edfu (ancient Mesen), where he was worshipped with Hathor and their child Harsomtus.
It would be massive in size and constructed of huge stones so it would not fall. The temple would have several huge rooms and have statues of falcons and pictures of his restored eye. Any statues of him would show him wearing a crown of an Egyptian king. His temple would have the colors yellow and blue for the sun and sky. The temple would also have several tunnels with some having traps for grave robbers. This temple would be great for Horus since it would be secured and well constructed.
